【Tonbo (Dragonfly) is also known as Kachi-mushi (Winning Bug)】
When Emperor Yuryaku went hunting, he got his arm stabbed by horsefly.
Dragonfly came by and caught that horsefly and flew away. Dragonfly flying while holding onto a prey looked very bravery. Its brave and resolute stance of never flying backward was recognized as a competitive bug and people started calling it 'kachi-mushi' (winning bug). That is when people started using a dragonfly design on their kabuto and weapons. From this incident, dragonfly is considered as a bug that is strong and good fortune to bring in a win. Holding onto a small item with a dragonfly design was considered to be a lucky charm during martial arts competitions.
